Charlie Angus Backs Paul Dewar for Leader
Today Charlie Angus, a well-liked, respected, and veteran MP from Timmins–James Bay, endorsed Paul Dewar’s leadership bid and committed to building the NDP in key regions.
“Paul is a person who connects with families and their priorities and I believe he’s the best leader to carry on Jack’s work and win the next 70 seats needed to form an NDP majority,” said Angus. “He brings to the table the kind of ideas, energy and leadership that a majority of Canadians are looking for from their government.”
At the announcement, Dewar thanked Angus for his support and named him his Deputy Leader tasked with building the NDP in key regions across the country.
“Charlie’s a great MP and someone who many people talked about as a possible leadership candidate himself, so when Charlie offered his support, I accepted it and asked for more,” said Dewar. “As my Deputy, Charlie will build our Party by engaging Canada’s Real Majority. They’re Canadians who work hard to pay their taxes and look after their family but they’re being left out by Stephen Harper.”
Dewar noted the importance of starting to build the NDP’s victory now.
“Charlie has helped open our NDP to young people, First Nations and everyday Canadians across the country. If we’re going to defeat Stephen Harper and elect a team that speaks for the Real Majority in this country, the work starts now,” said Dewar.
